SMART-GIRL
The Schaden Family Fund became involved with Smart-Girl in October, 2006. Smart-Girl provides a prevention and enrichment program that uses positive peer influence to support and inspire adolescent girls to make smart choices and become confident, capable and
self-reliant women.
As Colorado's only research-based program that teams small groups of middle-school girls with highly-trained, high school and college-age mentors, Smart-Girl empowers girls to:
- Develop and practice leadership
- Develop group and social skills
- Learn problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Increase a sense of self-worth and empowerment
- Develop attitudes and values that lead to resilience and success in life
- Reduce vulnerability to self-destructive behaviors
MARINE CORPS SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION
The Schaden Family Fund became involved with the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation in April, 2006. The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation (MCSF) is a public non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation operated by volunteers and professional staff with the goal of providing education scholarships to families of Marines. The Foundation does not receive any government funds, but rather relies on its volunteers to raise funds primarily with a series of special events (scholarship balls and golf tournaments) across the country. Donations are accepted at any level according to MCSF charitable gift acceptance policies. Permanently endowed and annual named scholarships are available for memorializing or honoring a loved one. Endowed funds are held in perpetuity and invested according to MCSF investment policies.
MCSF is committed to minimize its expenses through best practices and the service of hundreds of dedicated volunteers, keeping its current expense ratio at 11.74%. It has also been rated a Four Star Charity by Charity Navigator and Best in America by the Independent Charities of America for demonstrating the highest standards of public accountability and program cost effectiveness
